Welfare

PASTORAL, SOCIAL AND WELFARE NEEDS OF PUPILS

The Class teacher is immediately responsible for each child's welfare, with support from the Headteacher. Where necessary the parents will be contacted and use made of the Education Welfare Service.

Any parent wishing to discuss their child's social/welfare problems is encouraged to make an appointment to see the Class teacher at a time which is convenient. The Headteacher would be consulted if it was felt to be necessary, and feels strongly that dialogue between Parents, Teacher and Headteacher should be open regular and positive.

In cases of illness or accidents, parents are immediately notified and the child cared for until handed over to a parent. Where the parents cannot be contacted, the school acts 'in loco parentis' taking the appropriate action.

It is important that the school is kept informed of any change in circumstances eg. Change of address or telephone number.

CHILD PROTECTION

Hebden Royd School recognises the important role that the whole community plays in promoting the health, safety and well being of all children.

All staff are alerted to signs of possible abuse or neglect and follow the procedures sent out by Area Child Protection Committee for child protection which all staff follow. If any parent has a concern about the welfare of any child in the school he / she should speak with the Designated Teacher - Ms G Young or contact the Social Services Department.

COMPLAINTS PROCEDURE

The Local Education Authority and Diocese have established a complaints procedure for dealing with complaints concerning the curricular responsibilities of the Local Education Authority and/or the Governing Body of the school. The areas covered by the complaints procedure include matters relating to the implementation and delivery of the National Curriculum; the provision of religious education and worship; changing policies in relation to the National Curriculum; the temporary withdrawal of pupils from part or all of the provisions of the National Curriculum.

Where a parent has a complaint which is covered by the complaints procedure, he or she should discuss the matter informally with the Head Teacher, then if not satisfied with the outcome a written complaint should be sent to the Chair of Governors. If the matter is not resolved, the parent should notify the Director of Education, Northgate House, Northgate, Halifax, in writing, giving details of the complaint. The procedures then provide for the complaint to be considered formally by the school governors and/or the Local Education Authority, as appropriate. Copies of the complaints procedure can be obtained from our school.
